Brief background to the conference

FemoCo aims to continue in the spirit of the work done during the 1990s at meetings like the "Women's Conference by and for Ethnic and Afro-German Minorities" in 1990 - or even in the tradition of the 1991 "Second Nationwide Congress by and for Immigrants, Black German, Jewish and Women Living in Exile".

In collaboration with women from the first conferences, we want to create a space where we can share feminist knowledge, our conceptions of ourselves, as well as our experience of multiple discriminations, in order to develop empowerment strategies.

In the tradition of feminist alliance meetings of Color, we hope that FemoCo2013, like the previous conferences, can promote alliance building and networking in order to make the feminist movements of Color more visible and noticeable in Germany.

In March 2012, Dr. Nivedita Prasad recieved the Anne Klein prize of the Heinrich Boell Foundation which was awarded for her commitment to human rights violations against migrants. In connection with the award, Nivedita Prasad strongly emphasized the importance of Black Women's Movement in Germany in her life.

As a result, the Heinrich Böll Foundation allocated funds to finance a follow-up conference of the "Nationwide Conference by and for immigrants, Black German, Jewish and Exiles Women" (1991) for 2013.

And that’s what we are carrying out now ...
